I think the main reason why Street Fighters have an advantage is their mentality.

Bruce Lee talked about fighting someone like Lyle Alzado on PCP. Each martial art specializes in a range. Take for instance Tae Kwon Do, Since this martial art specializes in the kicking range, they think that most fights will end in this range. Bad assumption. Within each martial art there is a weakness. Let me say that again Within each martial art there is a weakness. Inside Kicking Range, Western boxing is superior. TaeKwonDo is good with the legs, But if you are fighting a crazed man bent on your destruction you have to have the tools that will take that Man out. So the TaeKwonDo Man throws a high kick, The street fighter grabs that kick and starts beating on his head. End of fight. The moral to the story is Learn all ranges, Know the techniques that work in those ranges and Learn to fight in long range and close range. A TaeKwonDo Kick will work good if it is lower below the waist and in conjunction with close quarter fighting such as Wing Chun Trapping and Western Grappling Methods.

You're totally right here and thats why a boxer would never make it in the ring with an MMA fighter. I remember when UFC was one art versus another and then people got smarter and it's evolved into what Bruce was talking about years ago.

Thanks for the comment, Justin.

Larry Hartsell died in 2007 and trained 33 grappling techniques and then took grappling to another level before the Gracies.

In a Larry Hartsell Interview, He says Bruce Lee was going to come out with UFC back in the 70's but he died before that could happen. If Bruce Lee had lived who knows what would have happened in the martial arts world.
